Cory Shields steps down as VP of Communications at Amazon – Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: Cory Shields has stepped down as global vice president of media and entertainment at Amazon after more than three years at the streamer. There will be no immediate replacement. In the meantime, all of Shields’ direct reports will report to Drew Herdener, SVP Worldwide Communications at Amazon.

Shields, a veteran NBCUniversal executive, quietly joined Amazon Studios in early 2020, just before the pandemic hit. In the company’s top public relations position, he worked closely with Mike Hopkins, senior vice president of Prime Video and Amazon Studios.

Prior to Amazon, Shields spent a total of two decades at NBCUniversal, including a lengthy tenure as executive vice president of communications for NBCU Cable Entertainment from 2011 until his departure to Amazon.

Prior to his time in cable, Shields was EVP Global Policy Strategies and Alliances at NBCU, where he worked on the company’s anti-piracy team. Previously, he served as Executive Vice President of Communications for NBCUniversal since June 2006. He came to NBCU from Sony BMG Music Entertainment, where he served as Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications. Shield’s first stint at NBC was from 1997 to 2004, rising to the position of SVP Corporate Communications.
