Kong and company. will be stomping on streaming in June
Godzilla x Kong: The New Empirefollow-up to Adam Wingard’s film until 2021 Godzilla vs. Konghits theaters in March 2024. You won’t have to wait that long for the next installment of the so-called “Monsterverse,” though: On Monday, Netflix released the first teaser for Skull Islandan animated series set in the eponymous King Kong house.
Produced by Powerhouse Animation Studios, the studio behind Castlevania And Masters of the Universe: Revelation, Skull Island follows the adventures of a group of explorers who rescue a mysterious woman named Annie from the ocean, then embark on an adventure to explore the fabled island home to legendary prehistoric beasts like (breathless Wikipedia search) Psychovulture , Sirenjaw, Swamp Locust, Skullcrawlers and of course: Kong.
The trailer looks good: it offers a glimpse of several of the aforementioned beasts as they rip, tear, jump and rush after the series’ hapless heroes, and there’s a cool shot of a female (presumably Annie) swinging from a vine and getting the fall on an armored jerk. It’s no Godzilla: The Seriesbut I certainly won’t stare a gigantic ape in the face and say no to an animated new take on a beloved franchise.
Skull Island will premiere on Netflix on June 22. It features vocal performances by Nicolas Cantu (The Walking Dead: World Beyond), Mae Whitman (The DUFF), Darren Barnett (I have never), Benjamin Brat (Poker face), Betty Gilpin (Mrs Davis), and more.
