The rebranding of the HBO Max streaming platform from Warner Bros. Discovery went live today with the official launch of Max.
As Max drew all the attention on social media, other streamers took the opportunity to weigh in on the rebrand.
NBCUniversal’s Peacock social media manager dug slightly into rebranding HBO Max after dropping the first half of its name. Peacock assured its followers and users that they would not follow the trend.
“I know you are all very disappointed, but I will not drop the first half of my name anytime soon,” read the Tweeter.
Peacock, a compound word referring to a male peacock, alludes to NBC’s colorful logo that has identified the network for decades.
On Instagram, social media executives had fun with fan responses after sharing their viral tweet.
One user suggested that “social media user deserves a raise for this one”, to which Peacock replied, “Brb send this to my boss”.
When a user asked Peacock to “live a little,” the brand replied, “My words in legal exactly.”
Peacock said they clarified they wouldn’t be changing their name as they felt “the questions were coming”.
It wasn’t the hardest hit Max took today, as many users also took to social media to air their grievances having to download a separate app to continue enjoying programming.
Max is the merger of HBO Max and Discovery+ that was announced in April by the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, David Zaslav.
“This is a real moment for us… This is our moment. This is our chance, and anything is possible,” he said as he announced the rebrand. I feel like, for our business, this is our date with fate.”
